'Dad, can I make a blog?'

The other day, my beautiful seven-year-old daughter asked me if she could write blog. I said yes, of she can, she can do anything she wants, apart from that which I say she cannot, for now. She'll grow up, and make up her own mind about the things she wants to do, and whether or not she's going to do them. The question made me think about what I'd write in my own blog, if I had one. I don't think I'll dedicate this blog to a specific theme, topic or area of enquery, as I think that would be slightly constrictive. This post is about J, my wee girl. She'll not be that wee for much longer, which is very scary, for her Mother and I. We hope she'll be true to herself, respectful of others, and engage in healthy, physically and spiritually-rewarding pursuits. Its natural, to feel and think that way, we love her, so don't want her to experience pain, well not too much anyway. Pain is inevitible in life. It diametrically defines pleasure; pain is important, pain means growth, usually, unless its pointless, maliciously inflicted pain. I suppose that's what we worry about....people hurting them. Usually, we hurt ourselves more than others hurt us, or at least that's my experience. I'm going to show J how to write a blog. She'll really like it!
